“Daniel Tarbox, an 18-year-old private in the 11th Connecticut, was mortally wounded near Burnside Bridge during the Battle of Antietam on Sept. 17, 1862. He died the next day. Daniel's brother, Louis, arranged for the return of the body to Brooklyn, Conn., where Daniel was buried in early October 1862. Daniel's grave is marked with a flag in the foreground of this panoramic image. The tall memorial 10 feet in back of it notes that Daniel was wounded near Burnside Bridge. Carved into the memorial near the bottom are these words: "Father and brothers, all a long farewell!” For more, check out John Banks' Civil War blog: http://john-banks.blogspot.com/”
