“The red-brick church on Main Street in Sharpsburg, Md., is Christ Reformed Church. After the Battle of Antietam, the church, then called the German Reformed Church, was used as a Union hospital. Many soldiers from Connecticut, especially from the 16th Connecticut regiment, were treated there. Few visitors to the battlefield visit the church, a scene of horror and anguish after the battle on Sept. 17, 1862.
